We checked our local grocery and drug stores over the weekend to see what stores where offering $100 in FREE PRODUCTS if you shopped with them.
ANSWER: NONE
The closest thing to FREE was “get one free” if you purchased one item at a slightly higher price than usual.
Would YOU switch stores and shop with a new store if they offered $100 in FREE PRODUCTS?
Let’s think about this question: Is the mission of the large corporations we’re buying from now to enhance the lives of their customers, or is it to make a profit for their stockholders?
Picture this: You’re in the parking lot at WalMart, and you notice a new store there that has just opened with signs in the window advertising “We’ll give you a $100 shopping spree just for trying us”, and another sign that says “Many products 30 – 40% off of WalMart’s lowest price”, and yet another that reads “We’ll give you 10% back of everything you buy just for shopping with us”, and lastly “Tell others about us, and we’ll reward you!”
Well, I personally would be very willing to shop at this “new” store if they were also truly concerned about my well-being, I liked the products, they worked well, the store was convenient to shop at, I liked knowing everything there was safe, and everything there was a good value. I WOULD CERTAINLY TRY IT IF THEY TOLD ME I COULD GET $100 FREE JUST FOR TRYING IT OUT FOR THEM!
I’m curious – would that make sense to you too?
You know what else I’m wondering? Why in the world do we pay a fairly high membership fee to places like Sam’s Club, only to have to lug a bunch of stuff home – without any bags to carry it in, may I add – and then find places to store all these bulk items? Do the small savings we get by buying in bulk really triumph over the membership fee? Wouldn’t it be great to buy only what we need, when we need it, and still get the same great price?
What if there was really one place that you could buy “stuff” that was 30% cheaper than a Walmart or other discount stores, you got a 40% discount there every time, they would give you 10% back of everything you purchased every single time as a thank you for shopping there, and they would pay you for referring others to shop there too?
And what I meant by “stuff” was all of your necessities (like vitamins and supplements, cleaners, bath and body, cosmetics, and a Pharmacy) at a one-stop-shop. Think about all the stuff we use and sometimes have to run to several different stores to get it . . . toothpaste, lotion, soaps, deodorant, shaving creams, shampoo and conditioners, mouthwash, dental floss, breath spray, shower cleaners, vitamins, weight-loss supplements, granola bars, all-purpose cleaner, laundry detergent, bleach, floor cleaner, candles, carpet cleaner, air freshener, furniture polish, glass cleaner, cosmetic foundation, blush, mascara, and nail polish, every medication you could ever need, acne treatment, sunscreen, and the list goes on!
What I’m asking for is your help by simply wanting your opinion. I want to know everyone who has shopped somewhere that even comes close to all the things I’ve mentioned above. Maybe the $100 free doesn’t seem realistic, but what about the huge discounts and 10% back? I’d like to share a store that I’ve found to be great and have YOU be the judge, but not before hearing about your experiences first!
PLEASE . . . take a moment to email me and tell me your thoughts on this!
June 4, 2004–Evergreen trees, aromatic rose gardens, mountain sage growing on a sunny hillside with drops of dew. The warm, rich aroma of a kitchen brewing freshly ground coffee. These are some of the things that inspire soapmaker Colleen Miller. So powerful and compelling are the rural Colorado soap artists inspirations, that she created a line of top selling natural care products fashioned after them.

I wanted to take something ordinary, like a bar of soap, and give it a personality. Let it tell a story. The things that I have most enjoyed in life seemed like the perfect subject for my art, says Miller, who holds a Bachelors Degree in Horticulture and is also a certified herbalist.

We all have special memories of scent. Some of my fondest are of nature. Like hiking through forests filled with the crisp clean scent of evergreen trees. So I created Rocky Mountain Evergreen blend which I use to scent herbal soaps, organic lotions, and soy candles.โ€ Soy candles are a natural alternative to traditional waxes. Other blends include: Lavender, Rosemary Mint, Sandouli (a combination of sandalwood and patchouli), Cowboy Grit, Juniper Spice, Mountain Sage, Coconut Rose, Geranium Mint, among others. Organic lotions contain organic vegetable oils such as rose hips, evening primrose, jojoba, sunflower, and olive, and are scented with aromatherapy blends of essential oils that she creates specially for each product.

โ€œEssential oils are derived only from plants, unlike synthetic fragrances oils,โ€ says Miller. โ€œThey have aromatherapy benefits that can help with tension, acne, depression, mature skin, eczema, and more. People are really starting to learn the benefits of essential oils and their effect on the body, mind, and spirit. The combination of essential oils and my nature recipes really has my customers hooked. Once they try it, they cant go backโ€

Since opening her business, Greenridge Herbals, in January of 2000, Millers natural products have been earning rave reviews. Her unique creations are available in many stores throughout the United States and at the El Rancho Farmers Market every Tuesday this summer from 10am to 2pm (Home Depot parking lot in Evergreen, Colorado).

The feedback and interest in my products has been phenomenal, she says. I created Cowboy Grit soap for those hard-working men and women whose hands take a beating when they work outdoors. They were a huge hit with local area ranchers.โ€

The body butter is also a best-selling product. Made from cocoa, shea, and mango butter it is a thick, rich crรจme perfect for dry skin.

โ€œThe body butter is so moisturizing because it contains natural ingredients that I combine in my own original recipe. It doesnt contain anything artificial and you can really tell.โ€

Millers company began with an investment of $100 and mixing up her own creations in her kitchen with some almond oil, cocoa butter, and essential oils she bought at a health food store. Today, every product is still handmade in small batches for high quality control and freshness. โ€œI started making herbal soaps and lotions for myself and for gifts. Soon everyone I knew was asking for more and my supplies starting stacking up in the living room.โ€ Today, the company is run from her rural country mountain workshop where she is able to mix, formulate, pack and ship items to customers all across the country who order by phone and through her website, www.greenridgeherbals.com.

Creating products that excite and delight is Millers aim. Most of her organic herbs used to color and enhance the products are grown in her local organic gardens.

I try to use as many organic ingredients as possible, Miller says. โ€œI buy in bulk mostly from companies who promote and sell organic ingredients.โ€

Her packaging reflects the natural, raw organic theme of her company, using botanical art designs and a blend of hemp and kenaf paper.

โ€œIm enjoying developing new products and packaging that is reflective of my heart and soul. While I have created soap from my own special formulas, I have also worked with others to create products for their unique life stories. Soap, soy wax, and organic herbs are a happy medium to work with. Im thrilled that so many people have shown an interest in using our products.
