If youve ever suffered from acne then you may well have been lured in to buying expensive topical treatments. From lotions and creams to gels and facial cleansers, these products are big business.
Yet many people are left unsatisfied and out of pocket when they dont deliver the big promises that the skincare companies claim. The reason for this is simple and identifying it allows us to tackle acne in a much more productive way.
The fact is that, contrary to popular believe, acne is not caused by bacteria or any of external factor for that matter. Its actually caused by internal factors which range from poor nutrition to hormonal imbalance.
Its in discovering this fact that we can see why the traditional methods of treating acne just dont work in the long run. They may be able to reduce the symptoms temporarily but in order to cure yourself of acne you need to be able to tackle the root cause. Otherwise the symptoms will return shortly after you stop using whichever topical treatment youve chosen.
Now of course, you could continue using the anti-bacterial facial washes for the rest of your life but this would be costly and they tend to lose effectiveness as the skin gets more used to them. Then theres the fact that they contain rather harsh chemicals which could actually end up doing the skin more harm than good.
In the end, it comes down to personal choice. If youre happy to use the ointments and lotions then do so but if youd rather cure yourself naturally and cheaply then a holistic approach is much more advisable.
